It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martha Sue Thompson, 82, of Burlington Junction, Missouri. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Sue passed away on May 13, 2025, in Maryville, Missouri.

Sue was born on March 2, 1943, in Maryville, Missouri, to Basil and Edith (Curshall) Koger. She spent her entire life in the Burlington Junction, Missouri area where she was a cherished member of the community and a lifelong member of the First Christian Church, Burlington Junction, Missouri. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

She married James (Jim) Denney on February 18, 1962, and they were blessed with two children, Steve and Shelly. Jim passed away on February 9, 1986. She then married Nolan Bruce Thompson in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 16, 1993.

She worked for the West Nodaway School District for over 30 years where she served the Quitman, Clearmont and Burlington Junction children. After retirement, she had a little home daycare and loved all of those kids as if they were her own. In her free time, she loved to dance, shop, and hit up all the garage sales. She loved to travel, specifically Estes Park, Colorado and Branson, Missouri during the Summer, and at Christmas time.

Sue was preceded in death by her first husband, James Paul Denney, her parents, Basil and Edith Koger, and her brother-in-law, Mick Thompson

Her survivors include her husband, Nolan Bruce Thompson, and children, Steve (Susie) Denney of Liberty, Missouri, Shelly (Greg) McGinness of Maryville, Missouri, Curtis Thompson of Everett, Washington, Cary Thompson of Des Moines, Iowa, and Andrea Murphy of Burlington Junction, Missouri. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Aaron (Sylvia) Thompson of Marion, Iowa, sister-in-law, Judy Thompson of Skidmore, Missouri, and her sister Virginia (Wes) Lent of Mound City, Missouri.

She was a devoted grandmother to Darcie Ebrecht of Pickering Missouri, Brett (Kelly) Denney of Fort Madison, Iowa, Amanda (Cody) Ridler of Maryville, Missouri, Jacob (Jaylee) McGinness of Maryville, Missouri, Taylor (Luke) Farnsworth of Olathe, Kansas, Hannah Denney of Liberty, Missouri, Seth (Hannah) Thompson of West Des Moines, Iowa, Samantha Thompson of Ames, Iowa, Macalan (Jasmine) Pratt, of Woodinville, Washington. She was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren, Braya McGinness, Lathen, Trynzlee, Whytlee, and Daxton Ebrecht, Tristin, Boyd, and Layla Ridler, Cavin and Clayton Denney, and Oakley and Autumn Pratt, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation at the Bram Funeral Home on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 5-7:00 PM.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Bram Funeral Home. The burial will follow in the Quitman Cemetery, Quitman, Missouri.

The family suggests memorials be directed to Southern Bank in Sue’s memory.
