Rose Kraft passed away on Saturday, June 6 th , in Maryville, Missouri, eighteen months after her touchstone, Jim Kraft, and five days after her twin sister, Mary.
Rose Doll and her twin sister, Mariann, were born in a stone house in rural Morton County on April 5 th , 1937. She was one of ten kids born to Peter and Rosa (Ferderer) Doll. Rose was raised on the family farm outside of Almont, North Dakota. Rose was a hard worker and loved telling her grandchildren stories about life on the farm. They would ask to hear the stories about “Nana Rose and the Bull” or “Nana Rose and her dog Shep” on repeat at bedtime every night.
Rose left the farm and moved to Bismarck, North Dakota, where she met the love of her life, Jim Kraft, on a blind date. He was instantly smitten and knew a good thing when he saw it so that one date led to a wedding on February 15 th , 1971. They made their home in Bismarck before moving to Fergus Falls and then finally Devils Lake where they would live for 49 years. They had three kids: Brent, Adams, and Kirsten. Rose was loved fiercely by all three kids who also knew a good thing when they saw it.
Rose was dedicated to her convictions and her Catholic faith and was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devils Lake, North Dakota. Her faith was an important part of who she was as a person. Rose loved all children and cared deeply for the elderly. She was a protector of the most vulnerable in life and an ally to all underdogs. She had enough love in her heart for 1,000 grandkids although she had only a few.
Rose loved playing cards, reading, working on puzzles of any kind, gardening, and spending time with her family. While Rose was soft-spoken, she was very clever and had a giggle that was contagious. At times, she would make herself laugh so hard she couldn’t finish what she was saying and that laugh would sweep through the room until everyone was in the same situation. She was a fixer and a problem solver, and her kids kept her busy solving countless problems, but she was never happy to rest anyway. Not when she thought she could help someone else.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Rosa; brothers John and William; sisters Ann, Pauline and Veronica; husband Jim; and her grandson Alex. Rose is survived by her children Brent (Denys) Kraft of Cabot, AR; Adams Kraft, Fargo, ND; and Kirsten (Craig) Borey, Maryville, MO; grandchildren, Nicholas Kraft, Jacob Kraft, Lorien Chase, Thea Borey and Isla Borey. She is also survived by sisters Josephine and Florence, and brother Donald.
Arrangements are under the care of Bram Funeral Home. Services and burial will take place in Devil's Lake, ND at a later date.
