Nancy Beth DeMott, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11th, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on September 15th, 1936, in Clearmont, Missouri, Nancy was a stalwart, pillar of the Hopkins/Pickering communities where she lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family and community.
Nancy was the devoted wife of Richard A. DeMott, with whom she shared a wonderful 68 years of marriage. Together, they raised a loving family, including their sons, Mike DeMott and Mark (Deb) DeMott, and daughters, Rhonda (Steve) Schmidt and Heather (Bill) Pistole, all of Maryville. Her family was her pride and joy, and she was a doting grandmother to Beth (Eric) Hornbuckle, Drew (Kameron) DeMott, Gary (Savannah Bushman) DeMott, Amber (Kenneth) Hanna, Dana (Trevor) Coleman, Derek (Rachael) DeMott, Jayla (Brian) McGary, Bryce Schmidt, Dalton Pistole, Garrett (Autumn) Pistole, and Carson (Jasmyn) Pistole. Nancy was also blessed with numerous great-grandchildren, Rylee, Reese, Ridge, Dawsyn, Brynlee, Kreyton, Makenna, Whit, Brooks, Woods, Wells, Kollin, Addysin, and Carter, several in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Orville Porterfield and Verla Pauline Porterfield, her brothers, Cople and Denny Porterfield, and her sister, Marcia (Porterfield) Thompson. She is survived by her brother, Tillie (Karen) Porterfield of Maryville, and her sister, Mary Willrich of Atlantic, IA.
A proud graduate of Hopkins High School, class of 1954, Nancy excelled in sports, playing basketball and volleyball. After high school she started work at Nodaway Valley Bank and joined a bowling league. Her passion for sports continued throughout her life, as she was an avid supporter of Bearcat football and basketball games and cheered for her grandchildren in all their activities. Nancy's career as an office secretary spanned 30 years at St. Joseph Light and Power in Maryville, MO, where she was known for her dedication and professionalism.
After retirement, Nancy continued to serve her community by volunteering at the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary. She was also known for her green thumb in the garden, her famous ham balls, and her love of dancing with Richard. Together, they traveled extensively, creating cherished memories both across the country and abroad.
There will be a visitation for friends and family at the Bram Funeral Home Wednesday October 15, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm.
Nancy's life will be celebrated at a funeral service on Thursday, October 16th, 2025, at 10:00 am at the First Christian Church in Maryville, Missouri. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Drew DeMott, Gary DeMott, Derek DeMott, Bryce Schmidt, Dalton Pistole, Garrett Pistole, and Carson Pistole. Nancy will be laid to rest at the Hopkins Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Coleman Cemetery or The National Kidney Foundation in Nancy's memory. Arrangements are being handled by Bram Funeral Home.
Nancy Beth Demott's legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
