Merlin Leroy Atkins

On November 28, 2025 Merlin Leroy Atkins went to be with the lord after a rapid decline in his health at Maryville Living Center, Maryville, MO. He was born on May 13, 1943 to Carroll and Margarite (Hurst) Atkins in Maitland, MO. He was 82 years old at the time of his passing.

Merlin is survived by his loving wife, Kay (Johnson) of 62 years, his four children, Lonnie Atkins (Ginger), Belinda Atkins, Elaine Rohrbeck (Matt), and Allen Atkins, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Merlin and Kay were high school sweethearts who married on May 5, 1963. They spent most of their years in Maryville where Merlin was a farmer for 36 years and then served on the board for the Ministry Center for 27 years, and was the director for 9 of those years. In addition, he served on the board for the Nodaway County Community Building for 28 years. Merlin also served on the board for MFA for 20 years. Merlin was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Maryville for over 40 years where he taught Sunday School and served as an elder, deacon and trustee. Merlin and Kay also were members of the Levi and Laces Square Dancing Club, and enjoyed those outings greatly. Merlin enjoyed gathering with his friends and family after his retirement. He especially enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren.

Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Margarite Atkins and his infant brother, Carroll Elsworth Atkins, as well as his son-in-law, Marco Adams (Belinda).

A Visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Maryville, Missouri on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 2:30 PM. Followed by a Funeral Service at 3:30 PM at the same location. A burial will follow at a later date. Memorials may be made to The Ministry Center or the First Presbyterian Church of Maryville, Missouri.
