Mary Katherine "Kate" Watowa, a beloved resident of Maryville, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15th, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on December 17th, 1939, in Maryville, Kate lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to her family and community.
Kate was the cherished daughter of the late Edward Herman Stiens and Freida Elsie Stiens. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marcell Watowa, and her brothers, John Stiens and Francis Stiens. She was also preceded by her niece, Sheila Stiens, nephew, Brian Stiens, brother-in-law, Kenny Belcher, and nephew, Ken Belcher.
Kate is survived by her devoted daughter, Amanda Gilman of Maryville, MO. She leaves behind her brothers, Joe (Kathleen) Stiens of Maryville, MO, Bill (Twyilla) Stiens of Skidmore, MO, and Tom (Libby) Stiens of Maryville, MO; her sister, Florence Belcher of St. Joseph, MO; and her sisters-in-law, Sandra Stiens and Mary Stiens, both of Maryville, MO. Kate was a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
A graduate of Gard Business School, Kate earned an Associate's Degree and went on to work as a dedicated dietary employee at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, MO. Her commitment to her work and her community was evident in all she did.
Kate had a passion for reading, knitting, and puzzle books. She had a wonderful sense of humor that always brought laughter from those around her. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her family and friends. She was especially adored by her grand dog, Oscar, who brought her immense joy.
Family and friends are invited to honor Kate's life at a Rosary service on Monday, March 23rd, 2026, from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm at Bram Funeral Home in Maryville, MO. Visitation will follow from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the same location. Burial will be at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery, Maryville, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Village Care Center in Maryville, MO.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bram Funeral Home, where Kate's life will be celebrated and remembered by all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
