James “Jim” Lewis Lawson was born June 5, 1933 in Burlington Junction, MO and died August 31, 2026 in Maryville MO. In 1933, Jim met his mother first, Ruth Elizabeth Sloan Lawson, and shortly after his father Maurice J. Lawson. He attended two grade schools, West Point and Eudora. In 4th grade, he started at Skidmore schools and graduated from Skidmore High School in spring of 1951.
Jim married Madonna J. Pigg on January 10, 1953. Two children were born to their marriage: Nancy Kaye Lawson McKee (deceased) and Curtis James Lawson of Maryville. The marriage ended in divorce. Jim later married Karen S. Foster Cain in 1990. There were no children from this union.
Jim began his insurance career in October 1962. He worked 59 years for Mutual of Omaha before retiring and remained active in the insurance field thereafter.
Jim served the Lord as a local minister for many years, preaching at Albany, Ravenwood, Stanberry, King City, Skidmore, and Pickering. He was also a prolific song writer and poet. He has a book titled “Poems, Stories and Thoughts” and a songbook titled “Praises to God.”
Jim is survived by one son, two step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the care of Bram Funeral Home. There will be a visitation at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Bram Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 PM. Burial will be at Orrsburg Cemetery in Orrsburg, MO, officiated by Rev. Wendy Deering-Poynter.
