Maryville, Missouri

Jim L. Hayes, 89 of Maryville, MO passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025 at his home after a brief illness. He was surrounded by family throughout his illness and at the time of his passing into eternity to be with the Lord that he loved. Jim was born on March 26, 1936 on the family farm near Clearmont to Cecil Roy and Irma Irene (Kroger) Hayes who proceeded him in death. He lived his entire life in Nodaway County; with the exception of the time he spent stationed in Germany proudly serving his country in the United States Army.

After completing his service Jim returned home and married the love of his life, Sandra Wallace who survives of the home. They were married in Hopkins, MO on June 11, 1961. The couple moved to Maryville, where Jim began a long career serving area farmers in the agribusiness industry. He started his career driving a propane truck for Consumers Oil Company. He was eventually promoted to general manager before leaving that position in 1981. He then worked for a brief time as the general manager of the Farmer's Coop Elevator in Blanchard, Iowa. From there Jim went to Nodaway Valley Bank to begin a career he truly loved as a loan officer specializing in ag loans. Jim retired from NVB as a Senior Vice President in 2004. He continued to serve NVB on their Board of Directors until retiring from that in 2015 after serving on the board for over 34 years.

Jim was a devoted member of Clearmont Christian Church for many years before moving to Countryside Christian Church in 1998 to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He held various leadership positions there and continued to attend services faithfully until just a month before his passing. Jim was active in the Maryville Community and served on many volunteer boards and committees during his career.

In addition to his parents, Jim was proceeded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Landon and May Wallace, brother Gene Hayes, sister-in-law Bonnie Hayes and brother-in-law Lewis Wallace. In addition to his wife Sandra, Jim is survived by his brother Joe Hayes, sister-in-law Shirley Hayes, two sons, Troy (Merv) Hayes and Todd (Rita Ann) Hayes both of Maryville. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Jacob (Sarah) Hayes, Joshua (Brady) Hayes, Sarah (Josh) Pierce, Shelbi (Buck) Scheel, Hunter (Jessica) Hayes, Chad (Sarah) Lewis, Cody (Amy) Lewis, Cristin (Jon) Decker, Cara (Mike) Barnett, 23 great grandchildren, Rhett, Axel, Harlyn, Canon, Creed, Chase, Owen, Mason, Austin, Kendall, Riley, Daniel, Gwen, Nolan, Ava, Gavin, Landon, Cooper, Margo, Wesley, Hudson, Palmer, Grayson, one on the way, and several nieces and nephews.
