Gerald Robert Auffert

Gerald “Jerry” Auffert, 81, of Conception Junction, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Jerry was born on November 12, 1944, at home in Gentry County to Ervin and Bernadine (Bliley) Auffert. He was a lifelong resident of the Tri-C area and a graduate of Jefferson High School Class of 1963. 

Following high school, Jerry joined the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country on the front lines during the Vietnam War. He served with distinction, earning the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Meritorious Service Mast. After returning home from his military service, Jerry began a 43-year career as a printer at Conception Printery House, where he worked until his retirement in 2010.

On April 20, 1968, Jerry married Rita Marie Untiedt. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, hard work, and countless memories.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Rita; their four children: Douglas (Toni), Donald (Diana), Jennifer (Max), and Jason (Lacy); seven grandchildren: Ashley Auffert, Teri-Anne Auffert (Sean Simpson), Heather Spear (Tim), Tyler Dunlap (Abigail), Trent Dunlap, Lillian Auffert (Shelbie King), and Addalyn Auffert; and four great-grandchildren: Ava Simpson, Henry Spear, Eloise Spear, and Collin Auffert. 

He is also survived by his siblings: Basil Auffert (Marie), B.H. Auffert (Wanda), Teresa Lammers (Gary), and Mary Jo Vernon (Mickey); and his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Priscilla Clampit, Shirley Auffert, Joseph Untiedt (Carm), Margaret Untiedt, Mary Ann Keber, Francis Untiedt (Marie), William Untiedt, Leonard Untiedt (Louise), Elizabeth Weigand (Bill), Carol Reidlinger (Robin), Sherry Untiedt (Corey), and Janet Meyer (Martin). In addition, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Marvin, Donald, Rosalie, Richard, and Lisa; in-laws: Francis Jean Wilmes, Al Gruenes, Charles Untiedt, Vic Keber, Barb Untiedt, Teresa McMillen, Lewis McMillen, John Untiedt; as well as two nephews. 

Jerry was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Tri-C American Legion Post 464, and Knights of Columbus Council 1931. A true outdoorsman, Jerry found great joy in hunting, gardening, and tending to his beloved orchard. He especially enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Beekeeping was another passion that held a special place in Jerry’s heart. As a member of the Northwest Missouri Bee Busters, he took great pride in sharing his knowledge and teaching beekeeping classes to anyone interested in learning.

Family was the most important part of his life. He never hesitated to make time for the people he loved. Whether sitting around the kitchen table, sharing the harvest from his bees, garden and orchard, or cheering from the sidelines at sporting events and dance recitals, Jerry’s greatest joy was being there for his family. Above all, Jerry ensured that no one ever left his home hungry. His love was steady, generous, and present in everyday moments that his family will treasure forever.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Rosary at St. Columba Parish in Conception Junction, Missouri, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., followed by visitation from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held at St. Columba Parish on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery in Conception, Missouri, immediately following the service.

Today we say goodbye with tears, but also with gratitude for the beautiful moments we had together. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. We will honor his life by remembering his goodness and carrying his love forward.

The family wishes to thank the numerous caregivers that gave comfort to Jerry during his extended illness including the staff at AseraCare Hospice; Home Instead and the Tri- C Rescue Squad.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tri-C Volunteer Fire Department.
