Estelle Arlene Crites, affectionately known as Arlene, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas, at the age of 93. Born on March 30, 1933, in Grant City, Missouri, Arlene lived a life full of warmth, dedication, and love.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Reverend Lawrence B. Day and Elsie Day, her cherished husband, James E. Crites, and her dear son, David L. Crites, Arlene is now reunited with them in eternal peace.
Arlene's professional journey included roles at the Maryville Daily Forum, Nodaway Valley Bank, and Pittman Company, where she was known for her diligence and commitment. Beyond her work, Arlene found joy in knitting, baking delicious treats, and tending to her beautiful garden, each activity reflecting her nurturing spirit and creative heart.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her devoted daughter, Laura Collings, and son-in-law, Mike Collings; her granddaughters, Kate Sweeten and her husband Sam, and Kristin Sostarich and her husband Adam, all of Kansas City ; her grandson, Tim Crites; and her daughter-in-law, Jill Crites of Tulsa. They are comforted by the many fond memories they shared with Arlene.
Arlene was cremated and will be laid to rest in Nodaway Memorial Gardens next to her husband, son, and parents, in a private burial on June 19, 2026. Her family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who have offered support during this difficult time.
In remembrance of a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved, Arlene’s family invites those who knew her to celebrate her legacy by holding onto the values she held dear—compassion, kindness, and a love for life's simple pleasures.
