Dennis Dean Guthrie, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on June 27th, 1944, in Kansas City, MO, Dennis was a cherished resident of Clearmont, MO, where he spent the majority of his life.
Dennis was a graduate of West Nodaway High School and dedicated 27 years of his life to serving the Clarinda community as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service.. His commitment to his work and the people he served was unwavering, and he was known for his friendly demeanor and reliability.
A veteran of the Air Force, Dennis served his country with honor and pride. His sense of duty and service extended beyond his military career and into his everyday life.
Dennis had a passion for making homemade ice cream, a treat that brought joy to family gatherings and community events. He took great pride in maintaining his yard, ensuring it was always a welcoming and beautiful space. In recent years, Dennis found joy in dog sitting for his daughter's pet, which led to him becoming a part-time dog owner, a role he cherished.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis Guthrie, and his loving children: Michele Guthrie of Clearmont, MO; Alisa (Robbie) Meyer of Burlington Jct., MO; and Michael (Hannah) Guthrie of Jerseyville, IL. Dennis was a proud grandfather to Laura (Fred) Creamer, Tyler (Noelle) Stoll, Kelsey Meyer, Trevor Meyer, Malina Guthrie, Mila Lancaster, and Finley Lancaster, and a great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Lonnie (Enid) Guthrie, Lanny (Kris) Guthrie, and Rick Guthrie; sisters, Christina (Michael) Gasper and Dawn Denise (Chris) Malone; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Duane Guthrie and Thelma Verleen Guthrie; his sister, Dianna Miller; his parents-in-law, Roy and Helen Roberts; two sisters-in-law; and eight brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be held at Bram Funeral Home in Maryville, MO, on Friday, August 8th, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Honorary pallbearers will include Trevor Meyer, Tyler Stoll, Fred Creamer, Herb Snodderly, Robbie Meyer, and Lanny Guthrie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Clearmont Community Club, an organization close to Dennis's heart.
Arrangements are under the care of Bram Funeral Home. Dennis Dean Guthrie will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, service, and love will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
