It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel Lee Schafer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Daniel passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28th, 2025, at the age of 53, at his home.
Born on Monday, December 13th, 1971, in Maryville, Daniel was a lifelong resident of the community. He was the son of the late Herman Richard Schafer and Kathleen Beatrice Schafer. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard Schafer, Tony Schafer, and infant brother Donald, as well as his brother-in-law, Scott Gallagher.
Daniel is survived by his devoted wife, Sheila, who stood by his side through life's many adventures. He leaves behind a loving family, including his son Spencer (Casey) McGinness of Maryville, MO, and daughter Samantha (Kyle) Metcalf, also of Maryville, MO. Daniel was a proud grandfather to four cherished grandchildren: Sawyer Metcalf, Salem Metcalf, Bodhi McGinness, and Banks McGinness, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his brothers, Raymond Schafer of Maryville, MO, Ronald (Lori) Schafer of Skidmore, MO, Joseph (Pam Kirkendall) Schafer of Skidmore, MO, and his sisters, Stephanie (Timothy) Woolery of Maryville, MO, Linda Gallagher of Maitland, MO, and Teresa (Mike) Davis of Maryville, MO.
Daniel was a graduate of high school and pursued further education with two years of college. He dedicated his professional life to Kawasaki in Maryville, Missouri, where he worked as a foreman. His colleagues remember him as a hardworking and reliable team member.
A farmer at heart, Daniel found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved playing cards with his grandchildren, taking care of his chickens, and spending time in his garden. Hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, and he was happiest when surrounded by family, often with a grandchild on his lap.
A visitation will be held at 9:30 AM Thursday, October 2, 2025, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, followed by an 11:00 AM Funeral Mass. Daniel will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery, in Maryville, Missouri.
Daniel Lee Schafer will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
