Dan Henry DeMott, 87, of Maryville, MO, son of Henry F. DeMott and Marjorie H. (Lett) DeMott (both deceased), passed from this life on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home in Maryville.
Father of Henry A. DeMott, daughter-in-law Nealie J. DeMott and granddaughter Finley J. DeMott.
Dan was born in Maryville and attended elementary through college there, receiving an undergraduate degree from Northwest Missouri State University. He then went on to receive graduate degrees from Northwestern University in Chicago and University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Dan taught Communications and Theater at Northwest Missouri State University and enjoyed writing, directing and acting in plays. Dan was a jack of all trades as he acted in plays, movies and commercials from New York to Missouri.
He loved helping those who had a passion for the arts as he did and ensuring his knowledge was passed on to the next generation. Dan had many achievements but his tenacity for love, life, friends and family could not be challenged.
He had been an active member of the Dramatical Actors Guild, and also a member of the Playwright Circle of Kansas City, Missouri.
Dan would like to thank friends of Bill W. for always being there. Lastly, Dan would like to leave you with his favorite quote from Carl Sandberg. Carl was asked if he believed in an afterlife and his response was this, “I will let you know when I get there.”
Dan has been cremated under the care of the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.
There will be a memorial service for Dan on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at the Bram Funeral Home. His cremains will be spread on his parent’s graves in the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, Missouri, at a later date.
Family and friends are welcome to stay and visit after the services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested in Dan’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, or the campus radio station at Northwest Missouri State University.
