Carolyn Sue Akin

Carolyn Sue Akin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Monday, June 15th, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on January 25th, 1941, in Elmo, Missouri, Sue was a member of the Maryville, MO community, where she resided for the last few years. Before that she was a longtime resident of the Maitland area.

Sue was the daughter of the late Ovie and Mary Jones. She was preceded in death by her sister, Luella Jones, and brother, Earl Jones, as well as her sister, Carrie Maude, and two sisters in law Bonnie and Ethelene. Sue was a graduate of Elmo High School, Class of 1959, and went on to become a businesswoman, owning and operating her own convenience stores throughout her career. She also had a great love for quilting in the later years of her life.

On February 14th, 2009, Sue married Max Akin of Graham, MO. Together, they built a life filled with love and happiness. Sue is survived by her devoted husband, Max Akin, of the home; her sons, Stan (Diane) Chesnut of Barnard, MO, and Danny Chesnut of Maryville, MO; her daughter, Brenda (Rodney) Lewis of Graham, MO; her brother, Kenny Jones, and sister, Leota Gust, both of Kansas City, MO. Sue was also a proud grandmother to four grandchildren and a great-grandmother to thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.

Sue’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at Lamar Cemetery in Burlington Jct., Missouri, on Friday, June 19th, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Pallbearers honoring her memory will be Ethan Chesnut, Curtis Lewis, Patrick Lewis, Leslie Gust, Bill Burris, and Lyle Jones.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Bram Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Lamar Cemetery.

Sue will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.
